Snapshots from Japan – Tokyo the other side

Usually we see pictures from Ginza and other tourist spots.

Glamerous, modern, fascinating.

But every big city has several sides and some, which are usually not shown. Walking the streets and subway stations of Tokyo you can spot many locations which show decay, neglect and simply old.

But these places, even the grafitty, which is so rare in Japan, show that there are people living their everyday life. Away from the department stores, the shopping alleys, the high tech.

Of course, we can see these images in our own towns as well. But walking through Tokyo and I really love to do that, one can see the many faces of the city. Fascinating, disturbing sometimes, but often with a smile of the passerby.
