Air travel – past

Reading about long cues of traveller at Sydney Domestic reminds me how travel has changed.

Airports, aircraft and even the airport surrounds.

This picture depicts the older prop planes used for domestic service and BOAC’s 707 for the flight to London.

The 707 would have many stops on the way. 6 abreast seating in eco and one movie screen with a film projector which broke down as often as it was operational. Since light output was limited, viewing only at night.

Ah, and I almost forgot. Smoking was still allowed.

Airport much more basic, with manual check in and at counter seat selection, if at all. Plus, no security check.

Airports. You would not think that this was Sydney airport, considering the denser housing and industrial/maritime activities nearby nowadays.

Interesting trip to the past.
