I wrote previousely about this. Using the exposure compensation on your camera, lets you influence the appearance and drama of your images. In particular in b&w mode, clouds are often to bright and do not reflect the real situation.
Here is a series of images, taken with my Leica CL. The image mode was set to B&W HC and images were taken with 0, -1, -2, -3.
It is possible to increase the overall brightness later in LR, PS or Affinity without loosing much of the drama effect. This is if you work with JPG. In DNG of course the balance of the image will change and you can negate the effect created during the shot.
